Boatwatchers' Corner

This page is dedicated to other homepages which deal with the history of Great Lakes shipping and other non-business related topics. There is a tremendous interest in the history of Great Lakes shipping, and lots of people simply like the boats, so LCA is pleased to be able to help this disseminate information.

This also gives us an opportunity to answer one of the most frequently asked questions: How can I get a ride on a Laker? The answer, unfortunately, is that it's very difficult. LCA members' ships are not certificated to carry passengers for hire, so you can't buy a ticket. It is true that some of the ships have guest quarters, but these are reserved for customers, government officials from agencies which regulate the industry, technicians and others who have an business relationship with the industry. Once in a while, a member of Lake Carriers' Association offers a boat trip to a charitable auction, but that's about the only opportunity for the general public.
