The major U.S.-Flag Great Lakes lines had 56 of their 66 vessels in service on June1, a decrease of 7 hulls compared to a year ago. While the reduction in active vessels illustrates the continuing crisis in steel, two of the seven idled hulls were undergoing repairs and will return to service yet this month.
