On November 1, the major U.S.-Flag carriers on the Great Lakes had 63 of their 70 ships and tug/barge units in service, a decrease of two vessels compared to a year earlier. As of the survey date, an integrated tug/barge unit in the dry-bulk trades was in the shipyard undergoing its 5-year inspection. A tanker and cement carrier were also in temporary lay-up.
Current projections are that no vessels will begin to lay-up for the season until the end of November at earliest.
